It is turned and carved, then carefully painted, making each piece unique.The Mining Foreman wears the authentic uniform of a high-ranking mining official. This includes a black coat with gold embellishments and red accents. He also wears white breeches with black knee pads. White boot tops complete the look. His green shako is the characteristic headwear of Saxon miners. It is decorated with mining symbols and a white plume, giving the figure a dignified appearance.In one hand, he holds a small miners lamp with a flame, symbolizing his responsibility in the mine. In the other hand, he carries a miners staff, representing his leadership role. The figures colors are harmoniously coordinated: rich black, vibrant red, and warm gold. They lend the mine foreman an impressive presence. Furthermore, the combination of wood and finely applied layers of paint makes this figure a true work of art.The mine foreman was the highest authority in an entire mining district. He belonged to Class VI of the Freiberg Mining Authority one of the highest-ranking positions in Saxon mining. The shift foremen and mine supervisors reported to him. In addition, he had to possess comprehensive knowledge of mining, including ore, rock, and mine operations. He was responsible for ensuring that the mine was managed efficiently and effectively. Surveying the mine and inspecting the pithead stones were also among his responsibilities.Every Sunday evening, he held the so-called opening ceremony at the Mining Authority. At this ceremony, the foremen and shift foremen had to present their accounts. This figure therefore honors him as a symbol of competence and leadership.
